LISTSERVs

What is a LISTSERV?

Sorry about the clunky name but LISTSERVs are an important part of the Sierra Club communication channels. You might find being a subscriber to a LISTSERV useful. LISTSERVs are e-mail groups with a specific interest. Some of them are broadcast only, such as the "Announce" (list which we use to send announcements about upconming events and volunteering opportunities) and some are discussion lists such as the "Sprawl and Transportation" list (where committee members discuss approaches to influencing local planning policies issues). Broadcast list do not accept replies but discussion lists share posts from any member. As with other Sierra Club communication channels, LISTSERVs function at the national, chapter (Colorado-wide in our case) and group (Boulder County wide in our case) levels. The national website has a page with Frequently Asked Questions about LISTSERVs and another page showing every Sierra Club LISTSERV list where you can join (subscribe to) or leave (unscribe from) any Sierra Club list. The list of lists is huge, and can a be a bit confusing, so here are some pointers. Lists relating to Rocky Mountain Chapter and Colorado-wide issues all have the prefix "RMC-" such as "RMC-ENERGY-ALERTS". Lists relating to Indian Peak Group have the prefix "RMC-IPG-" such as "RMC-IPG-ANNOUNCE". If you have any difficulty finding the list you are interested in we have made some fast tracks with a bit more detail to the Indian Peaks Group lists below.

Each list has an "owner" who is the person responsible for managing the list. If you have any difficulty subscribing or unsubscribing from a list, you can e-mail the list owner who will be happy to help you.
