Deer Mountain Hike

Story by Dave Hawley

March 21st 2008

Ten hardy souls braved the elements on March 9 to climb Deer Mountain to the north of Longs Peak on this Sierra Club snowshoe hike. Several of the participants were new to snowshoeing, and they had a blast going cross-country (no real impact to the land on 12”-18” of snow). Kodak moments abounded, and the weather was kind - it was sunny and quite warm - and most unbelievable for Rocky Mountain National Park, no wind at all! We lunched overlooking the Longs Peak range, and it was spectacular – mother nature at her finest!
